Maureen R. O’Brien, 92, passed away peacefully at Mary’s Meadow in Holyoke surrounded by her loving family. Maureen was predeceased by her husband, William H. O’Brien, and her parents, Romuald and Bridget (Coyle) Richards. Maureen was a proud Holyoker and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949. Maureen went on to work for the New England Telephone Company, where she met her future husband. Together, they raised their five children. Maureen and Bill were fortunate to have a great group of friends with whom they had many good times. Maureen is survived by her five children: William J O’Brien (Liza), Mary O’Brien (Joseph Bass) Daniel O’Brien, Joan O’Brien-Smith, Therese O’Brien-Bailly (Bruce). Her eight grandchildren: Sean O’Brien (Yanelis), Jonah (Amy), Olivia (Steven), Isaac (Madeleine) and Aidan Bass, Therese Faherty (Brendan), Jake (Courtney) and Grace Bailly, and six great grandchildren: Alaiyah, Luca, Aria, Ellie, Liam and Louise. Along with her family, Maureen will be missed by her many friends who brought tremendous meaning and joy to her life. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care she received while still at home, especially Bridie, Sharon, Tara, Trina, and Rebecca. Most recently, Maureen made her home at Mary’s Meadow. Her children will forever be indebted for the incredible care and the meaningful relationships she developed while there.
Relatives and friends are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial for Maureen on Thursday March 28 at 9:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by burial in Saint Jerome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
